#5 GC

1.       A globally competent citizen exhibits the characteristics listed below.
a.       Has appreciation for people from other cultures.
-          This only signifies respect for others. We should respect each other as each and every one of us was born unique. We should avoid discrimination to other cultures because it’s against the law.
b.      Is sensitive to the needs of people different from themselves.
-          It is almost related to the first characteristic. Being sensitive to others and being aware of their needs is also respecting and a form of love because you are kind enough to care for others.
c.       Has increasing knowledge about people around the world
-          As a globally competent citizen, you must have an adequate knowledge of the different people meaning you are around the world competent enough. It’s just like when you’re gone into a place you are not familiar with and you have to stay there for a long period of time, you will look and search for the kind of living in that particular place making yourself familiar with the people in that place, their cultures and beliefs.
d.      Has critical cognitive skills and attitudes such as empathy, interconnectedness, perspective taking, cross-cultural understanding, action orientation, and prejudice reduction.
-          All of these characteristics mentioned must be possessed by a globally competent person because when we talk of globally competent person, we are referring to a person who was knowledgeable to the different types of person and to their culture. And has the ability to easily cope up with others and with the changing environment.

Characteristics of a Global Classroom
How can you make your classroom a global community?
Global perspective is integrated throughout the school curriculum not just in social studies.
By designing a curriculum that will address the different needs of the children.
International focus courses are developed in areas such as anthropology, regional history, geography, global or world studies, foreign language study, world religions, ethnic group studies, international business, music, and art.
If these international focus courses developed in this area therefore as a teacher, I will think of different activities that will enhance the learning of students as well as provide activities that will catch and hold their attention.
Internationalizing instructional methods and materials emphasize intercultural interaction and culturally appropriate methods of instruction and assessment. Partnership programs with other schools and countries can also be developed.
I will collaborate on and extend common projects across national boundaries
Encouraging international travel as an important part of one’s education
Educational field trip may take place for the children for them to be actually engaged in the real setting taught in school.
